Dad is Sleeping
Where do I begin? I guess I will start with the fact that it has not been a good health week around here. A-Corn has been sick with pneumonia (you would never tell from looking at her.) She is on the mend, but I don't have any funny stories about her other than she threw up all over her bed for us last night and that she made me this sign for yesterday's dental festivities.
Remember this my root canal issue? Well, I put it off and the pain went away. Then, some pain came back a few weeks ago, and I thought that my head was going to explode, and I went to a doctor and he said that it was allergies sinus issues, but most of all, dental issues. So I found a new dentist with clean hair. (I always check out a new dentists hair, because in the words of the late great George Carlin, "NEVER TRUST A DENTIST WITH BLOOD IN HIS HAIR!"
He told me that I don't need a root canal, but the 2 shattered teeth had to be crowned. So I explained to the dentist that I don't like dentists (nothing personal), and he understood. Something about the smell of tooth smoke just doesn't agree with me. He assured me that the medicine that he would give me would take care of all my fears. So we set up the appointment for the crowns, and he was RIGHT. WAAAY RIGHT.
3 little blue pills. I don't know what they were, and I frankly don't care. All that I know is that I didn't smell any smoking teeth. One minute I sit down and the next minute I'm being wheel-chaired to the car. Wow. Then there was the double vision. Crystal clear double vision. Not college-junior-year-toga-party double vision. Crystal clear. Two trucks coming right at us. Evil.
When we got home, I fell up the stairs (yes, up) for a nice little slumber.
And I thank A-corn for the do not disturb sign, like I really needed it!

Old Contrivance Update
It looks like the tomato trellises are working perfectly (knock on wood). Usually, by this time in the season, I spend a few minutes each day trying to jam the vines back into the cages. Just to do a fair test, I used one of my cages from last year on one plant. So far, the "new-old contrivances" are much less work. I think it is time to build more, and some different sizes for the peppers. I also want to build one that will serve as an onion and garlic drying rack.

Road Trip
Last Saturday, we packed up the van and headed for the Adirondacks. As usual, the trek was filled with all of the usual. There were many hours of boredom, seconds of panic and fright, and a few minuets spent having a conversation with a representative of the New York State Police.
Sorry for the blurry shot. It is very difficult to take clear photos at such high rates of speed.
Ironically, moments before it happened.
See the man in the mirror?

I'm not sure how, but she got off with a warning. I swear it was the fact that she was wearing a short skirt and she has great legs. Yes, I do have a photo of them, and NO, I will not share it here. But I can imagine that if this was the view that Officer Friendly would have seen, we would have been in BIG trouble.

Remind me not to do This next year...
A 'Premier' Arts and Crafts Event.
And, if you haven't had enough, hang your kid from a contraption for $5. Probably the best possible $5 you could spend today.
So, what is it like to spend a few hours at the Brick Street Market Day? Let me just say this, it is not for men. Unless of course you need to stock up on Cinnamon Rosehips , bracelets made out of bent spoons, painted antique saw blades, and teapots turned into birdhouses. Who on earth buys a $125 teapot birdhouse? Honestly, someone tell me. I can see paying $5 to hang your kid for awhile......

Dos Breckies
I went to lunch with a couple of friends on Thursday at one of my favorite places, BBI Cafe. It is not a chain restaurant and everything that they make is yummy.
Mike likes breakfast for lunch, so he had 2. 4 eggs, 6 bacon, 4 toast, 1 Coke. "Dos Breckies!"

New Old Contrivances
Here goes a shot at an old new idea. I am completely unhappy with every tomato cage that I have ever tried. Last winter I checked out a book from the library, "Homemade Contrivances and How to Make Them."
Evidently in 1850's this is how they made tomato trellises. I made one today, I'll probably make 3 or 4 different design changes and make a few more. Maybe I'll make a smaller version for the peppers.
Stay tuned.

Big 4-oh
My wife's big 4-0 is in a couple of weeks. I promised her a toilet last year, I under-delivered. This year I got on my hands and knees, scrubbed out the rust stain, and put a new crapper lid on. I know, it doesn't get much more romantic than that.
Oh, I almost forgot... I also set up a surprise 6:00 wake-up on Friday, day at the spa (thanks Wendy, Beth, and Cheryl) and a HUGE surprise party Saturday night.
